Giro Atmos Road/Racing Bike Helmet (Medium, White/Silver)

Product Description

The Giro Atmos Road and Racing helmet provides legendary performance, style and comfort - and features the new Roc Loc 5 fit system. After more than ten years of refinement, this ground-breaking fit system provides an entirely unique use experience with an unmatched level of comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. With Roc Loc 5, you can easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. Just twist the dial for a tighter feel on tough terrain, then back it off a notch and relax across the flats or a warm climb. Even with these remarkable features, Roc Loc 5 is still 40-percent lighter than its popular predecessor, Roc Loc 4. Roc Loc 5 systems is: 1) Micro Dial. The heart of the Roc Loc 5 is this ratcheting, micro-adjusting dial. A simple, two-finger twist of the Micro Dial opens or closes the retention system and each click is audible. 2) Three-Position Vertical Fit - It's never been easier to change vertical positions and fine-tune fit. We incorporated a three-position bracket that features 15-millimeters of precise up/down movement. Like the Micro Dial, this system can be adjusted without removing the helmet. 3) Carefully crafted ergonomic arms are shaped to be as comfortable as possible, yet work flawlessly with Giro eyewear (what we call Super Fit engineering). 4) Dual Pods - These two panels are designed to firmly grasp the back of your head while comfortably cradling the occipital lobe. Strap management - with Roc Loc 5, your helmet straps are woven through the fit system, so they are always in the perfect position. Complex Internal Design - Dozens of small parts work together seamlessly to provide exceptionally user-friendly adjustment. Minimal and Light, yet Strong - Although this fit system is 40% lighter than its predecessor, it's much stronger. In testing, Roc Loc 5 performs flawlessly, even after 6,600 cycles (equivalent to 3 years of riding with 3 round trips per day).

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price, August 24, 2011

Let me start by saying that once you get to the $100+ helmets, you really can't go wrong with any of your choices for helmets

Before choosing to buy this helmet I spent days researching all the helmet offerings by Giro, Bell, Specialized, etc. They all promise many vents, comfort, low weight and great designs -- it is difficult to truly say one helmet is better than another in terms of features.

My next step in ensuring I was going to pick the correct helmet was to visit all the bicycle shops in my city and personally try them on, even trying the same model in different sizes to make sure I would get the perfect fit. I found that out of all the helmets, the Giro Atmos was the most comfortable surpassing the Bell Volt and more expensive offerings like the Ionos. At the store, I even thought this helmet was so comfortable, I would probably forget I even had a helmet on after a while.

So I went ahead and purchased and put it to the test immediately. After... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars I survived a 30 ft. fall with this, May 17, 2012
This review is from: Giro Atmos Road/Racing Bike Helmet (Sports)
I won't go into comfort- it's as comfortable as any helmet I had before. I won't go into aesthetics... those are self evident. What I will go into is what happened to me September 18, 2011.

I was riding my bicycle on Mount Evans, the highest paved road in North America. During my descent, the winds became unusual (and I'd ridden this mountain MANY times). Perhaps a thermal eddy, maybe something else. All I know is on a straight section I was fighting a headwind, and then I wasn't, with a curve coming up fast. the winds had reversed direction, causing my speed to go from 30 MPH to 50 MPH in seconds. I tried to slow, but began to skid, so reduced pressure to my brakes to maintain proper control. I couldn't slow enough. I left the road... and fell off the mountain, landing on granite boulders 30 feet below.

Ultimately, I sustained 9 spinal fractures, 3 in my neck and 6 in my upper back. My rib cage and right scapula were shattered. Both lungs were punctured and I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool but makes noise..., October 22, 2011
If you are looking for a better than any other average helmet with plenty of ventilation, look no more. This is definitely it. You would immediately feel this is well structured in a point of safety yet is very light, so you would be so comfortable wearing this one.

One negative is that when you wear this, you can actually hear the wind. So much so, you would hear a car approaching sometimes -- but actually no car behind you. Just to inform you.
